Hippo on Campus

Our brains are busy things, what with everything a body needs to accomplish on a given day. Our neurons beaver tirelessly away sorting things out at work, home, school and dog park.
These tiny, thought-engendering widgets are of many kinds, I’m told, each dedicated to a particular cerebral activity. A complete taxonomy of all 86 billion would be as tedious to enumerate as read, but some small number will need no introduction. I’m thinking here of the groundless fears neuron, the vain hopes neuron, and the grueling why-in-heaven’s-name-did-I-just-say-that neuron. No doubt you have pet neurons of your very own to feed and care for. Or am I just projecting?
It’s possible that In these fraught and stressful days a contentless thought bubble could be a good thing, if only momentarily. But to know for sure, I’d have to fill my thought bubble and … well, you see the problem.
Here in the Wine Corner, one of our most neuron-intensive activities involves planning our regular Friday afternoon tasting events. What, we ask ourselves, is new and needs an introduction. What has languished for too long without a turn on stage? Which themed array might prove instructive to our ever-curious clientèle? We confer. The whirr and hum of brain waves is heard, and an idea takes shape, emerging before our eyes and via a route known only to itself, onto the shop floor. A nip here, a tuck there and it’s done.
You needn’t know a hippocampus from a hippo on campus to join us as we taste talk and learn about wine every Friday in the FKC Wine Corner from 3 to 6. An open mind and a moderately impetuous palate is all that’s required. Who knows? You may discover some neurons you didn’t know you had.
